Flying animals to safety with Greater Good Charities

When there’s a natural disaster, like the Maui wildfires that happened in August 2023, we work together to lend a helping hand. Our Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation (Boehringer Cares) mobilizes its resources and partners with nonprofits to support disaster relief around the world with product donations. Our employees also step up by volunteering their time and expertise to relieve pressure on local organizations and aid in recovery.

Watch this video with Boehringer employee, Dr. Julie Ryan-Johnson, associate director of Shelters and Nonprofits and vice chair on the board of directors for Greater Good Charities. Julie, who is also a veterinarian, volunteered with the nonprofit to care for cats and dogs during a flight from Maui, Hawaii to the pacific northwest as they traveled to their new homes following the wildfires.

This is a wonderful example of the unique bond humans and animals share and the acts of kindness we prioritize when a community needs it the most.

How Boehringer Cares supports disaster relief efforts

Boehringer Cares also engages with employees during this time by:

  • Keeping them informed of events and our response.
  • Offering a special 2:1 matching gift program.
  • Providing small grants to employees impacted by disaster through our Employee Care Program.
