Boehringer Ingelheim was established in Connecticut in 1971 and broke ground on September 1st, 1989 in Ridgefield. This site, which is located in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and a short, one-hour drive from New York City, is home to the U.S. headquarters of Boehringer Ingelheim. Working daily to serve humans and animals, the modern campus supports up to 1,900 employees across Human Pharmaceuticals, Patient Advocacy, Group Functions and most notably, the Innovation Unit, a scientifically advanced research center for human pharmaceuticals.

The sprawling 330 acres also include eleven buildings dedicated to research and development, the Briar Ridge Complex, including buildings reserved for Microbiology, Lead Development Technology and Physical Science. The site in Ridgefield runs completely on renewable energy (hydro-electric energy).
