In 2004, Boehringer Ingelheim acquired the Dortmund-based company Steag microParts, which has been known as the Boehringer Ingelheim microParts GmbH ever since. Serial production of the RESPIMAT® had already started in 2002. As part of the global production network of Boehringer Ingelheim, the Dortmund site is responsible for the manufacture of the RESPIMAT® inhaler, which is then packaged with its cartridges in Ingelheim, Germany, and Sant Cugat, Spain.
