Mexico shines at the AMCO Awards

Boehringer Ingelheim Mexico was awarded the AMCO Award in 2023 for communications best practices surrounding its inspiring volunteering program. Company volunteers built ecological stoves to help fight respiratory diseases, set up rainwater harvesting systems, helped maintain dog shelters and equine therapy centres, assisted with afforestation initiatives and conducted awareness sessions for people with special needs.

Presented annually by Mexico’s largest and most prestigious group of corporate communicators, the AMCO Awards highlight outstanding communications practices. The win underlines Boehringer’s strong commitment to connecting with underserved communities, finding sustainable solutions – and amplifying its impact through excellent communication.

Boehringer wins German Sustainability Award 2023

Boehringer Ingelheim won the German Sustainability Award 2023 for the pharmaceutical sector, beating out competitors like Astra Zeneca and Merck. The jury thus recognized it as a pioneer in the pharmaceutical industry for its sustainability efforts.

“This award is a great recognition for the work and commitment of many colleagues who are driving projects in a wide variety of areas and thus helping to make our company more sustainable,” Sustainability Manager Andrea Freund-Kremer said during the award ceremony. Based on the goals of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, the award centers on key areas of transformation such as climate, biodiversity, resources, supply chain, and society.

Boehringer receives EcoVadis silver medal in 2023

Boehringer Ingelheim received a silver medal from EcoVadis in its 2023 sustainability assessment, placing us within the top 25 percent of all rated companies. This includes above industry-average scores in all four assessed areas: Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. EcoVadis is one of the world’s largest providers of comprehensive, evidence-based corporate sustainability ratings. The assessment methodology is based on international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, UN Global Compact, and ISO 26000. EcoVadis serves as a vital benchmark in assessing our sustainability performance, and our overall score has consistently improved since the first assessment in 2016.

Boehringer receives SBTi validation

Boehringer Ingelheim's ambitious CO2 reduction targets for 2030 have been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), a well-respected organization that assesses decarbonization efforts. This confirms that Boehringer's goals align with the Paris Agreement's critical 1.5-degree Celsius target, a significant step towards curbing global warming.

The SBTi validation highlights the importance of Boehringer's existing "MORE GREEN" program, which aims to transform the company into a low-carbon business. Our commitment to environmental sustainability is demonstrated in our actions: We have achieved a substantial 41% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2010. In addition, the Fornovo (Italy) and Paulinia (Brazil) production sites were recently added to our list of carbon-neutral certified sites, bringing the total worldwide to seven.
